Griffin Hook & Hackle Gauge

Product Details Griffin Hook & Hackle Gauge helps fly tiers match dry hackle to the correct hook size so finished flies sit properly on the water and maintain accurate proportions. This compact 2 1/2 in. by 1 in. tool features two gauges in one: a hook gauge for verifying hook size and a dry hackle gauge for measuring feather barbule length against the post. To check hackle, simply wrap the feather around the post and observe where the barbules splay; the marked scale shows which hook size best matches that feather. Accurate sizing improves flotation and profile on dry flies such as Adams, Blue Winged Olives, and Elk Hair Caddis patterns commonly used for trout in rivers, creeks, and spring-fed streams. Clear markings and straightforward layout keep the process simple at the tying bench, giving tiers consistent results across multiple fly sizes.
